Clanton’s City Council made several personnel decisions at a meeting Tuesday that had been pushed back one day because of the Memorial Day holiday.

The council accepted the resignation of an employee in the sanitation department, with the vacancy to be posted within the department.

Blake Martin was approved as a part-time employee in the street department, as were several lifeguards for the pool at E.M. Henry Park.

James Gambrell, D.J. Bolding Jr., Keshawn White, Devray Williams and Broderick Wright were recommended by park employee Darrell Bolding and approved by the council.

The motion to approve the lifeguards was pending them obtaining proper certification.

The council also approved a motion to enter into a contract with Paul Butler III, who will serve as an architect for a project to renovate the E.M. Henry Head Start Center.

Van Forrester with the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce thanked the council for allowing the use of the council chambers for a “Meet the Candidates” political forum May 20.

Councilman Greg DeJarnett thanked other city leaders for their support of a meeting with the West End Neighborhood Watch group to discuss issues relevant to the community.

To start the meeting, the council approved the minutes from its May 12 meeting and voted to pay the final installment on the money owed for work on the city’s water treatment facility.
