Veterans salute the flag during the playing of Taps at the Chilton County Veterans Memorial Day program on Monday.
The sacrifice made by Chilton County residents who gave their lives serving their country in combat was recognized Monday at the Chilton County Veterans Memorial Day program.
The program was held at 10 a.m. at the veterans monument near the Chilton County Courthouse.
The program included a welcome by Morris Price, invocation by the Rev. Phillip Burnett, the Pledge of Allegiance led by Chilton County Girl Scouts and the song “America.”
Price introduced the speaker, David Hubbard, and afterward the names of Chilton County residents killed in combat were read by Price, Clifton Blum, Lally Bates and Richard Gibson.
Taps was played, and the flag was lowered, prior to a placing of a wreath by Marsha Howell.
The Chilton County Veterans Memorial Committee includes: Price, Eugene Cost, Jim Gore, Ocie Williams, William Trimble, Bates, A.C. Luhrs, Blum, Charles Owens, John H. Burnette and Michael Clenner.
