The community is invited to once again join the Chilton County Veterans Memorial Committee to honor those who gave their lives in military service.

The 28th annual Memorial Day Observance will take place at the Chilton County Courthouse on Monday, May 26 at 10 a.m.

Korean War veteran Morris Price will welcome the community and the Rev. Phillip Burnett will perform the invocation.

The Chilton County Girl Scouts will then lead the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the main speaker, David Hubbard.

Morris Price, Clifton Blum, Lally Bates and Richard Griffin will join efforts to read a list of Chilton County veterans that served in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon and Iraq.

“As a Korean War veteran myself, I see the importance in remembering those that have lost their lives serving our country,” said Price, the committee chairman. “I hope that the community will see the importance in it as well.”

Among the names on the list of veterans are six men that Price attended school with, along with the name of his brother who he lost in WWII.

In the closing of the program, “Taps” will play, Eugene Cost and Charles Owens will lower the flag, and Marsha Howell will perform the placing of the wreath.

Seating on the courthouse lawn will be provided. In the event of inclement weather, the observance will take place in the courtroom.
