Whitney Denson has joined The Clanton Advertiser’s news staff as an intern.
Denson is a junior majoring in English at the University of Montevallo.
She is a native of Valley Grande and a 2012 graduate of Dallas County High School.
“We’re excited about Whitney joining us for the summer,” Managing Editor Stephen Dawkins said. “Whitney is a talented writer who will help us tell the stories that matter to our readers. Also, it’s always rewarding to help someone gain experience in a career field you’re passionate about.”
Denson holds a 3.75 GPA at UM, with course work including principles of journalism, advanced English grammar, mass media writing, studies in composition and rhetoric and computer technology.
Denson has earned spots on the University of Montevallo’s Dean’s List and President’s List, and the Wallace Community College Selma President’s List.
She is a recipient of the University of Montevallo Academic Achievement Scholarship and is an active member of the UM branch of Sigma Tau Delta National English Honor Society.
At the Advertiser, Denson will gain experience performing all tasks expected of a full-time staff member, including reporting, writing, editing, proofreading and photography.
“I am definitely looking forward to gaining experience through my internship, as well as get to know the people of Chilton County,” Denson said. “Through years of playing softball in Clanton, I have fallen in love with the area. As someone who comes from a small town, I understand the value of a close-knit community and what it means to have a caring and involved staff for the local newspaper.”
