Calera man indicted for murder in shooting of Clanton woman

A Calera man was indicted by a Shelby County grand jury on a murder charge in the shooting death of a Clanton woman.

Demetrius Raishand Watson, 22, of Calera, is accused of intentionally causing the death of Lisa Langston, 40, of Clanton, by shooting her on Dec. 5, according to court records filed May 13 in Shelby County Circuit Court.

Officers from the Calera Police Department responded to an incident on Slab Hill Road in Calera on Dec. 5 where they found Langston dead of a gunshot wound in a yard next to Slab Hill Road.

Authorities arrested Watson on Dec. 6 where he posted a $75,000 bond and was later released from the Shelby County Jail.

Watson’s arraignment is scheduled for July 7 at 8:30 a.m. at the Shelby County Courthouse in Columbiana.

Murder is a class A felony. If convicted, Watson could face between 10 and 99 years in prison.
