The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office will host its annual rodeo Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m.

There will also be a rodeo event Friday morning for special needs children from across the county.

“The special needs rodeo is a lot of fun,” rodeo event organizer Ann Davis said. “The kids are able to come out and enjoy being outside with different activities going on.”

The special needs rodeo will begin at 9 a.m. and last until noon with different activities including face painting, a dunking booth, snow cones, football throw, dancing, steer head roping, noodle toss, inflatables and cotton candy.

Davis said kids from different schools throughout Chilton County, who make up a “posse,” will be participating in the special needs rodeo and will be opening up the rodeo Friday and Saturday nights.

“This year, the sheriff’s department started a Mounted Posse, which is a volunteer organization which helps the sheriff’s department,” Davis said.

Members of the posse often ride on horseback and help deputies with things such as a missing person or in the event of a disaster.

The rodeo is a sanctioned Professional Cowboys Association event and will be held at the Central Alabama Horse Club Arena, located off Interstate 65 Exit 212 on Highway 145 in Clanton.

PCA is a “non-profit association established to promote the sport of rodeo and is the Southeastern leader in professional rodeo,” according to its website.

Advance ticket prices are $8 for general admission and free for children ages 4 and under.

Tickets may be purchased at the gate for $10.

Davis said tickets can be purchased in advance at the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department located on the second floor of the Chilton County Courthouse or the Chilton County Jail.
