Humane Society to hold wine tasting fundraiser

The Chilton County Humane Society is inviting people to raise their glasses Saturday to benefit the shelter.

A wine tasting fundraiser for the Humane Society will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Hidden Meadow Vineyard and Winery in Jemison.

Jenny Milwee, vice president of the Humane Society board of directors, said the fundraiser was secretary Katherine Reece’s idea.

“We thought it might be a good gathering and a chance to meet people,” Milwee said.

Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at the shelter, from any Humane Society board member and at the door Saturday.

Anyone age 21 and older may purchase tickets and attend.

The event will include hors d’oeuvres and live music.

“This is kind of new for us,” treasurer Tom Cuthbert said. “We’re trying this for the first year. I think it will be a good turnout.”

All proceeds from ticket sales, along with $1 per bottle of wine purchased during the event, will benefit the shelter.

“The money is going into our general fund,” Cuthbert said. “We received an increase from the county and cities in their allocations to us, but a lot of people who have donated in the past have stopped donating.”

Milwee said the Humane Society strives to hold at least three major fundraisers every year.

Saturday’s wine tasting will be the shelter’s first fundraiser for 2014.

“We’re hoping it will start off with a bang,” Milwee said.

Hidden Meadow Vineyard and Winery is located at 664 County Road 606 in Jemison.
