Pavey said he will more than likely eat some sort of pasta before the Boston Marathon, but he usually eats a banana or grapes before running each morning.

“Bananas are the best food for runners,” Pavey said. “As you run, you have to look at your nutrition and be mindful of what you are putting in your body because it serves as fuel.”

Although Pavey has lost more than 35 pounds since he started running, he plans to splurge on an ice cream cone after finishing the Boston Marathon.

“When you know you have a race ahead of you, you give up certain things to prepare for the race,” Pavey said. “I plan to eat an ice cream cone when I finish because that is one thing I haven’t had in a while.”

Pavey said he hopes to encourage others to start running and serve as an inspiration to the community.

“I like for people to see that this 66-year-young man can get out there and do this,” Pavey said. “I’m not doing this for myself. I am doing this because I want others to look at me and know they can do it as well.”

Currently, Pavey has taped on a cabinet door in his office “3:29:59” which is his goal for finishing the Boston Marathon.

Pavey said after he completes the Boston Marathon he will more than likely “slow down” a bit, but does have thoughts of running a 50-mile run at some point.

“You have to set goals for yourself,” Pavey said. “One of my highest goals was to run the Boston Marathon. Ultimately, I have fallen in love with running and as long as I can, I will keep doing it.”
