Billingsley, Verbena split doubleheader

Billingsley and Verbena split a doubleheader on Feb. 27, with Verbena winning Game 1, 13-5, and losing Game 2 by a score of 6-1.

In the first game, Billingsley plated one run in the bottom of the second inning, but Verbena took the lead with five runs in the fourth inning.

The visiting Red Devils added four more runs in the fifth inning and never looked back.

Chris Cook was the winning pitcher, tossing seven innings while allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six batters.

Cook helped himself by going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Brian Rasberry also went 3-for-5 and had two RBI.

Cole Mims, Jared Mims, Jacob Wilson and Trey Shiers all went 2-for-3 at the plate for Verbena. Cole Mims drove in three runs.

Verbena scored its only run in the seventh inning of Game 2 of the doubleheader. By then, Billingsley had taken a six-run lead.

Cole Mims pitched six innings for Verbena, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five.

Quandarius Ray was 3-for-3 at the plate in the game, while Adam Heflin went 2-for-3.

Wilson drove in the Devils’ only run with a sacrifice fly.

VHS returns to action with its first area game, at home against Wadley, on March 11.
