Kelly “Junior” Hughes Jr., 78, of Clanton, passed away suddenly Jan. 17, in Coosa County.
He was born in Chilton County on June 14, 1935, the son of the late Harlem Kelley Hughes Sr. and the late Iciebelle Meherg Hughes.
He was an automotive upholsterer.
He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He was a devoted father, a beloved “G Daddy” to his grandchildren and a loving brother.
He is survived by his son, Wayne Hughes (Debra) of Clanton; daughter, Cindy Collier of Calera; grandchildren, Leah Hill of Pell City, Trent Hughes of Nashville, Nick Hill of Nashville and Tamara Jackson of Clanton; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Christine Moates of Clanton; sister, Connie Vines of Clanton and sister, Virginia Rich of Clanton.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Hughes; parents, Harlem Kelley and Iciebelle Hughes and a brother, Clarence Wright.
Visitation was held Jan. 19 from 5-8 p.m. at Ellison-Cleckler Funeral Home in Clanton.
Funeral services were held Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. from the Memorial Chapel of Ellison-Cleckler Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Bolton officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Springs Cemetery in Clanton.
