Officers with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of shots fired in the 200 block of County Road 772 Tuesday that resulted in an arrest.

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis said deputies responded to a 911 call of shots fired from a caller reporting her husband was making threats and firing rounds at the residence.

“Once the first deputies got on the scene, they located the subject inside a white Chevrolet pickup truck outside of the residence,” Davis said. “The outside of the truck had been shot several times.”

Davis said Stacey Russell Lucas, 43, barricaded himself in the vehicle and refused to comply with the deputies.

“The deputies set up a perimeter in the area and the SWAT team was called in with the hostage negotiators,” Davis said. “Once the SWAT got on the scene, communication was established with Lucas who was in the vehicle and after a short negotiation with him they were able to talk him into exiting the vehicle.”

Davis said Lucas was taken into custody without any harm and charged with reckless endangerment and domestic violence in the third degree.

Although Davis said it was unclear why Lucas was firing shots at the vehicle, at the time of his arrest he was awaiting a mental evaluation.

“His wife and son were at the residence,” Davis said. “We aren’t sure why he was shooting but we are assuming he was shooting at the vehicle until deputies arrived and he got inside the vehicle which is where he was found.”
