Panthers take early lead, hold on

Jemison’s boys basketball team earned its second win of the season, 65-54 over Montevallo on Monday.

The Panthers (2-5) led 14-8 after the first period and never trailed again, using a 20-11 edge in the third period to secure the victory.

B.J. Kornegay led all JHS scorers with 19 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals.

Julian Lucas and John Underwood each scored 12 points. Underwood also pulled down six rebounds.

Randy Satterfield piled up 10 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

On the same day, Jemison’s girls basketball team improved to 5-1 with a 34-29 win over Montevallo.

The Panthers led 5-2 after one period of play but trailed 25-17 going into the fourth period.

JHS outscored their opponents 17-4 in the final period to earn the win.

Laura Vinzant paced the Panthers with 15 points to go along with six rebounds, while Cassani Steele turned in an impressive all-around effort with six points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks.
