State Rep. Paul DeMarco (R-Homewood) announced his candidacy for Alabama’s 6th Congressional District Oct. 28.

U.S. Congressman Spencer Bachus (R-Alabama) announced Sept. 30 that he will not run for re-election in the U.S. House of Representatives when his term expires in December 2014. He is in his 11th term as the representative for the 6th District.

“Since 2005, I’ve worked hard in the Alabama Legis-lature to represent the people with conservative, reform-minded principles that are now needed in Congress,” DeMarco said in a statement. “I have supported common sense and practical ways to make local and state government work best for the people of Alabama.”

DeMarco currently serves as chairman of the Judiciary Committee in the Alabama House of Representatives, Joint Oversight Committee for Alabama Homeland Security and Co-Chair of the Jefferson County House Delegation.

DeMarco is a partner in the law firm of Parsons, Lee and Juliano, P.C. He graduated from Auburn University in 1990 and received his law degree from the University of Alabama in 1993. He lives in Homewood with his wife, Jacqueline.
