Men’s spotlight

Taylor Hughes (Chilton County 2010) contributed two touchdowns as a quarterback for Huntingdon College (3-1) in a 38-28 loss at Wesley (4-1) on Oct. 5 in Dover, Del.

The senior split playing time in the contest with Ryne Tyler, who ended 15-of-29 passing for 217 yards and one TD.

Hughes finished 10-of-16 passing for 144 yards and one score, while totaling 19 yards and one TD on six carries.

For the season, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior has compiled more than 700 total yards to complement seven total scores.

He is 39-of-57 passing for 592 yards and five TDs and totals 18 carries for 115 yards and two rushing scores.

Andy Phillips (Maplesville 2011) placed first in the saddle bronc riding competition at the Murray State Rodeo en route to leading West Alabama to place third from Oct. 3-5 in Murray, Kent.

Women’s spotlight

Amber Wyatt (Isabella 2011) totaled a game-high 10 blocks for South Alabama (5-10, 0-5 Sun Belt Conference) in a 3-2 loss at Louisiana-Monroe (5-16, 1-4 SBC) on Oct. 6 in Monroe, La.

In the contest, the junior added three kills, two digs and one assist.

For the season, she has participated in 11 matches with six starts to contribute 42 kills, 39 blocks, nine digs and three assists.

Kasi Wells (Jemison 2011) leads Cumberland (12-11, 3-5 Mid-South Conference) with a team-high 447 assists for the season, which is No. 11 among the MSC.

For the season, she has started 23 matches to contribute 113 digs, 52 kills, 24 blocks and 13 aces.

On Oct. 2, the junior totaled seven assists, three kills and three digs for Cumberland in a 3-0 loss at Georgetown College (19-6, 8-1 MSC) on Oct. 2 in Georgetown, Ky.

Football

Anthony Johnson (Maplesville 2013) participated at tight end for Jacksonville State (5-1, 1-1 Ohio Valley Conference) in a 41-27 victory at No. 22 UT Martin (3-2, 1-1) on Oct. 5 in Martin, Tenn.

For the season, the freshman has competed in every game to total 11 receptions for 124 yards and one touchdown.

Javae Swindle (Jemison 2012) holds a team-high 439 yards and four TDs on 46 carries for the season after leading No. 14 West Alabama (4-1, 2-0 Gulf South Conference) to a 48-14 triumph at home against Delta State (3-2, 2-1 GSC) on Oct. 3 in Livingston.

In the contest, the sophomore compiled 62 yards and one score on eight carries.

UWA ranked among the NCAA Div. II Top 25 by the American Football Coaches Association poll released on Sept. 30.

Jacoby Browder II (Pratville 2010) contributed one pass breakup as a starting defensive back for Tuskegee (4-1, 2-0 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) in a 21-13 triumph at Fort Valley State (2-3, 2-1 SIAC) on Oct. 5 in Fort Valley, Ga.

For the season, the Verbena native has started in every game to contribute nine tackles.

Blake Lawley (Isabella 2010) posted three tackles and one tackle for loss as a starting defensive end for Huntingdon College (3-1) in a 38-28 loss at Wesley College (4-1) on Oct. 5 in Dover, Del.

For the year, the senior has started in every contest to provide 12 tackles and one fumble recovery.

Hunter Mims (Isabella 2010) competed as an offensive lineman for Huntingdon against Wesley.

Austin Rossi (Chilton County 2013) has participated in two games this season as a linebacker for Birmingham-Southern (3-2, 1-1 Southern Athletic Association) to compile two tackles.

Volleyball

Allison Mims (Isabella 2013) posted six digs, one kill and one ace for Wallace Community College-Selma (7-7) in a 3-1 victory at home against Southern Union State Community College (4-7) on Sept. 30 in Selma.

For the season, she holds team-highs in digs (18) and aces (17) to complement seven kills and one assist.

Kinslee Mims (Isabella 2013) has participated in three matches for WCCS.

Elizabeth Compton (Isabella 2013) has competed in one match for WCCS.
