Talmadge McCoy Bowen

Talmadge McCoy Bowen, 84, of Thorsby, went to be with his Lord on Oct. 2 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 29, 1929, in Bessemer, the son of the late Samuel Carl and the late Stella Adele Bowen.

He retired from USS, TCI Ore Conditioning Plant in 1982.

He began coaching little league baseball in 1957 and served as Alabama State Director of Dixie Boys Baseball from 1974 to 2000. He was inducted to the Alabama Hall of Fame in 2013.

Bowen accepted Jesus as his personal Savior in 1956. He was an active member of Jemison First Baptist Church as long as his health permitted.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 67 years, Jean Bowen, along with five children: Gwendelyn (Douglas R.) Bell, Michael (Benita) Bowen,Reginald (Becky) Bowen, Cheri (Carey) Waldrop, and Brian (Steven) Bowen. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marshall Bowen; sister, Cuebelle Carter.

The family will receive friends on Oct. 5 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Jemison First Baptist Church.

The funeral service will immediately follow with the Rev. Gene Hitchcock, the Rev. Rex Kent, and the Rev. Cecil Nelson officiating.

Burial will follow the service in Midway Memorial Gardens in Jemison.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Bowen’s memory to Dixie Boys Baseball P.O. Box 8263 Dothan, AL 36304.
