Berring Andrew Gwin, 77, of Jemison, passed away on Sept. 7 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born on Thursday, Aug. 13, 1936 in Birmingham, the son of the late Berring Arizona Gwin and the late Louise Sims Gwin Shattuck.

He was retired after 27 years with the United States Dept. of Defense and 25 years with the United States Postal Service.

Surviving are his wife, Mavis Langston Gwin of Jemison; son, Brian Andrew Gwin (Rita) of Jemison; grandson, Jerame Ray Smith of Jemison; brothers, Robert Arizona Gwin (Sheryl) of Tulsa, Okla. Alvin Earl Gwin of Norfolk, Va.; sister, Mary Alice Shackelford (Murray) of Lake Placid, Fla.; half-brother, Randy Shattuck (Ann) and Phillip Shattuck (Joyce); half-sister, Betty Shattuck Green (Larry); aunts, Mary Gwin Marlow (Richard) and Helga Gwin (Jack) and sister-in-law, Margaret Sue Langston Underwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Berring Arizona and Louise Gwin Shattuck; brother, Donald Richard Gwin (Delores); step-father, Matt Shattuck; step-mother, Estell Watkins Gwin; step-sisters, Bertie Watkins Uptain, Elizabeth Watkins Williams, Margie Watkins Byram, Jewell Watkins Cobb and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received from 2-3 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Mars Hill Baptist Church.

Services will be held on Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. at Mars Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. William Earl Short officiating.

Interment will follow in Mars Hill Baptist Cemetery in Jemison.
