The Jemison Lady Panthers volleyball team knocked off the Lady Tigers of Chilton County High in straight sets on Tuesday, taking a 25-12, 25-15, 25-23 decision on the road.

JHS raced out to an early 7-3 lead in Game 1, but after a CCHS timeout, the Lady Tigers rallied to tie the score at 7-7. Jemison responded with a strong service game, getting a total of 12 aces from the trio of Morgan Lucas, Emily Spain and Wendy Spigener to close out the opening set.

In Game 2, the Lady Panthers again took an early lead and never let the Tigers get close, largely due to the powerful net attack of freshman Cassani Steele. Lucas provided three more service aces in game two, while Ashley Dutton added a pair of her own.

Game 3 went back and forth, with Jemison going up 14-11, only to see CCHS bounce back to take a 23-19 advantage. Following a Panther timeout, JHS won back the serve and reeled off five more points to win the game and the match.

C.C. Wright led all JHS attackers with six kills, while Steele and senior Denten Ellison added five apiece.

Dutton and Spain combined for 17 assists, while Lucas finished with seven service aces. Brooke Lewis recorded seven digs from the libero position to pace the Panther defense.

Following a home match Thursday against neighboring Thorsby, Jemison travels to Oak Grove for the

10th Annual Grapple in the Grove. The Lady Panthers will be matched up with Fultondale, Oak Grove and Hueytown in pool play, with their first contest tipping off at noon.
