The stretch of Interstate 65 that runs through Chilton County has been a dangerous place the past couple of days.

At least four wrecks with injuries have taken place on the interstate since Monday night.

At 6:30 p.m. Monday, a vehicle stalled in a northbound lane of I-65 near Exit 208. It was struck from behind by a pickup truck.

While the driver of the truck was not seriously injured, two passengers in the car were trapped for about 15 minutes, Clanton Fire Chief David Driver said.

The subjects were transported to UAB Hospital via ambulance.

Firefighters also had to clean up a fuel spill caused by the wreck.

Another fuel spill occurred at about 2 a.m. Tuesday when an 18-wheeler side-swiped a guard rail, busting its fuel tank, Driver said.

The wreck occurred near Exit 205.

At about 11 a.m. Tuesday, a wreck near the 211-mile marker resulted in a passenger being ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to a hospital. More information about the wreck wasn’t immediately available.

A second wreck occurred shortly thereafter, possibly because of the traffic jam created by the first wreck.

The second wreck did not include any serious injuries.
