A fire at a residence on Second Avenue North in Clanton on Wednesday night resulted in part of the road being closed for several hours.
The Clanton Fire Department responded to the call at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a press release.
The vacant residence was fully engulfed in flames when fire department personnel arrived.
Personnel were unable to enter the residence because of the large volume of fire but began an aggressive exterior attack on the fire by using numerous hand lines and truck-mounted and aerial master stream devices, the release said.
The fire was contained to the residence of origin and did not spread to residences next to it.
“Unfortunately, the residence was a total loss; however, the aggressiveness of the fire department personnel prevented the two adjacent homes from being damaged,” Clanton Fire Chief David Driver said in the release. “We are also thankful no one was injured.”
Personnel were on the scene for about five hours.
Second Avenue North between Ninth and 10th streets was closed for several hours Wednesday.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
