Red Devils double up Isabella

Errors by the home team and solid defense by the visitors led the Maplesville Red Devils to a 10-5 victory over rival Isabella on Thursday.
Alexus Goggins got things started on the right foot for Maplesville with a lead-off single that would lead to a run on a Kiana Andrews single in the top of the first.
The Maplesville defense faced only four batters in the bottom half of the first inning, giving up a single to Caley Booth.
Maplesville added another run in the top of the second on a Megan Weaver single to right field, scoring Shelby Weldon, who reached on an infield single. Jayda Jones added another single for the Mustangs in the bottom of the second, but after two innings, the Red Devils led 2-0.
Andrews started the top of the third inning off with a double to right-center field, and Josie Smitherman followed with a run-scoring single.
Weldon scored Smitherman on an infield single, making the lead four runs for the visitors.
Autumn Smith and the Red Devil defense would retire the Mustangs in order to end the bottom of the third inning.
For the second inning in a row, Maplesville started the inning with a double to right field—this time by Weaver, who would later score on a Smith infield hit and an error by the Mustangs.
Ashton Taylor scored Smith on a double to center field, and Weldon scored Andrews, who reached on a single along with Taylor, giving the Red Devils an 8-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
The Mustangs broke the shutout in the bottom half of the fourth inning when a Jayda Jones single scored Victoria Fletcher, who was struck by a pitch.
An Alexis Burnett double to center field scored Briana Tyler, who reached base with a single, and Jones, drawing the Mustangs to within five runs, 8-3, after four.
Both teams would add two more runs each, with the Devils scoring Goggins on a Taylor single in the top of the fifth, and Smith again scoring Goggins in the top of the seventh with a double to left.
A Booth single scored Chelsea Cox, who reached on a walk in the bottom of the fifth, and Tyler scored Smith with a single to left field.
Cox pitched a complete game for the Mustangs, allowing 10 runs on 18 hits and no walks while striking out eight.
Booth and Jones led the Mustangs at the plate, both going 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI.
Smith pitched a complete game for the Red Devils, giving up five runs on 13 hits and onen walk while striking out three.
Andrews led the way for Maplesville at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one single, a double and a RBI. Weldon was 2-for-4 with two singles and three RBI.
