Three Jemison teams win at Isabella

Jemison’s girls basketball team pulled out a 43-42 win at county rival Isabella on Thursday.

Both teams started out slow in the first period, but the Panthers (7-8 overall, 2-2 area) led the Mustangs (9-6, 0-3) 7-3 at the end of the first period. Khadijah Craig led a Mustangs comeback during the second period, knotting the score at 14 apiece at the half.

The Mustangs took their first lead of the game and pulled ahead of the Panthers at the end of the third period, 29-28.

IHS led deep into the fourth period, but a 2-pointer by Morgan Lucas gave Jemison the lead with 8 seconds left to play.

Isabella then stole a Panther inbound pass and was immediately fouled and sent to the free throw line with a chance to tie the game, but the second free throw was missed, sealing the win for the Panthers.

Craig led the way for the Mustangs with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Williams added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Shelby Griffin led the Panthers with 14 points and seven rebounds. Laura Vinzant added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Panthers.

Isabella’s boys (2-13, 0-3) jumped out early on the Panthers (14-5, 3-1) but ultimately lost, 76-56.

The Mustangs took an early first period lead, 11-4, but the Panthers came roaring back in the second period and took a 34-25 halftime lead.

The Panthers would never look back, leading the Mustangs 56-42 at the end of the third.

Jacob Hatch paced the Panthers with 13 points and three rebounds while his brother, Austin Hatch, added 13 points and six rebounds.

Chase Pate led the Mustangs with 17 points and four rebounds, and Deonte Campbell added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Jemison’s junior varsity boys won over Isabella, 54-17
