Byron Clifton Lambert was arrested by the Clanton Police Department for receiving stolen property and failure to pay for gasoline. Allegedly, Lambert got off the interstate at the exit 205 Chevron gasoline station and left without paying for his gasoline. CPD sergeant Cameron Bates said the Chevron clerk saw Lambert fleeing the gas station and called 911.
“She gave a vehicle description and the direction he left in the vehicle which was interstate I-65 northbound from the 205 exit,” Bates said.
CPD officers gave out a description of the vehicle and an Alabama State Trooper stopped the vehicle near the rest area. During the investigation it was later determined the vehicle had been stolen out of the city of Montgomery from the 5600 block of Carmichael Road.
“We placed Lambert in jail for failure to pay for gasoline and after he was placed in jail we received a delayed notification that the vehicle was stolen,” Clanton Police Chief Brian Stilwell said in a release.
Bates said Lambert, 51, is originally from Arizona and moved to Alabama to take a job in Birmingham.
Lambert is currently in the Chilton County Jail on a $10,500 bond.
