A Wetumpka woman was struck by a train near the crossing at County Road 63 on Wednesday.

Courtney Parrish, 18, was transported to UAB Hospital with what Sheriff Kevin Davis described as “extremely life threatening injuries.”

The sheriff’s office received a call from rail company CSX about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday and responded to the scene, where Parrish was found, conscious and alert. Verbena Fire and Rescue and Care Ambulance also responded.

Parrish apparently was a pedestrian and not a passenger on the train. Davis said her extensive injuries were all over her body.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

“We’re still trying to determine why she was on the railroad tracks at that time of the morning,” Davis said. “We do not have any evidence to show there was any foul play.”
