Chilton-Clanton summer reading program ends

The Chilton-Clanton library concluded its Dream Big summer reading program June 26 with an awards ceremony for the participants.

Despite kick-starting the program in a room with 90 children and no air conditioning, according to the Children’s Librarian, Renee Chambers, this year was a success, with about 96 kids signed up.

The warm start didn’t slow them down; over the course of the program, kids enjoyed programs featuring anything from magicians to nocturnal creatures from 4-H.

In addition to the special guests, all children who participated received prizes, like bubbles, Barbies, paint sets and Play-Doh. The children from each group (K–2, 3–4, and 5–6) who read the most books received special prizes—gift cards from Books-A-Million.

Though the summer reading program is over, the 3–5-year-old story time will continue to be Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
