Peach Festival events begin this week

The 2012 Peach Festival will officially begin this week.

Festival events will fill the last two weeks of June, concluding with the Peach Parade at 9 a.m. and the Peach Auction at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 30.

The events, along with their dates, times, locations and brief descriptions, are listed below.

Wednesday, June 20 – Wednesday, June 27

•Entries to the 28th annual Roy Wood Peach Festival Art Show are due by June 19 at Peoples Southern Bank from noon to 2 p.m. Works will be displayed in the bank lobby from June 20–27. The first-prize winner in the Junior Division and the Senior Division will win $100. Second place will win $75, third place $50 and $25 for honorable mention. Entry forms are available at Peoples Southern Bank, and each form must be accompanied by a $5 entry fee.

Saturday, June 23

•The Cornerstone Fitness and Wellness Peach Run includes a 5k race and a 10k race, both starting from Cornerstone at 7 a.m. The cost is $30 per person and includes a free T-shirt while supplies last. Each male and female winner of the 5k and 10k races will receive $100 and a basket of peaches, and age division winners will each receive a basket of peaches. •The Peach Classic Fishing Tournament will be held from safe light to 3 p.m. Launch and weigh-in will be at the John Trobaugh Pavilion at Higgins Ferry Park. The tournament is a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Chilton County. The first place winner will receive $1,500; second place, $750; third place, $500; and fourth place, $250. The entry fee is $100 per boat, which includes a $10 big fish entry. Registration forms are available at The Clanton Advertiser, or call tournament organizer Carl Mims at (205) 646-2641.

•The Peach Cook-Off will be at 10 a.m. at Thorsby First Baptist Church. Pre-registration is required, and registration forms are due to the Chilton County Extension Office by 4 p.m. June 19. The contest will include judging, awards and sampling of participants’ dishes.

•The Little Miss Peach Pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Chilton County High School.

Monday, June 25

•The Young Miss Peach Pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Chilton County High School.

Tuesday, June 26

•The Junior Miss Peach Pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Chilton County High School. Photogenic winners will also be announced.

Thursday, June 28

•The Miss Peach Pageant will be held at Chilton County High School at 6:30 p.m., with interviews starting at 4 p.m.

Friday, June 29

•The Peach Jam Jubilee will be held from 4-10 p.m. in Clanton City Park. The event is sponsored by the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce and will feature GLOW, an eight-piece dance band from Atlanta, an antique car exhibit, a children’s train and numerous food and arts and crafts vendors. Saturday, June 30

•The Peach Parade will be at 9 a.m., followed by the Peach Auction at 10:30 a.m. at Clanton City Park.

•The Peach Classic car show will be held at Ollie Park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., tentatively. The show is sponsored by the Chilton County Cruisers and will include a DJ and concessions. For more information, call Ricky Easterling at (205) 389-0677.
