The Clanton City Council voted Tuesday to donate money for the purchase of exercise and weightlifting equipment by Chilton County High School.

The school obtained bids for the equipment, and the lowest bid was $25,073.

Councilmember Greg DeJarnett, who is also CCHS principal, abstained from the vote, but all other councilmembers voted in support of the donation.

In other business, the council:

•Set an organizational meeting for 1 p.m. on Nov. 5. The meeting will be used to set the times, dates and locations of future meetings.

•Approved nine part-time hires for summer work at E.M. Henry/West End Park and the Sanitation Department.

•Approved a liquor license for Pop-A-Top Again.

•Approved Mayor Billy Joe Driver to attend a meeting in Nashville on insurance. Driver said the city’s insurance company would pay for all expenses, so there would be no cost to the city.
