Boy Scouts of America are currently forming a VENTURING troop in Chilton County that is open to young men and women.
VENTURING is a youth development program designed to help young people mature and prepare to become responsible and caring adults.
Anyone 14-20 years old who has completed eighth grade is invited to sign up at the troop’s first meeting May 15 at Collins Chapel Fire Department at 5 p.m.
Jim Shannon, a member of the board at Lime Springs Baptist Church, which is sponsoring the troop, described VENTURING as “a way of taking young people and helping them get prepared to succeed in life.”
The troop will have two leaders, one male and one female, who will offer guidance and support.
“They’ll be doing a lot of activities, from whitewater rafting to learning first aid,” Shannon said. “This is going to be wide range – not limited to just learning one thing.”
BSA will cover the cost for each member to join.
For more information or to sign up before May 15, call Shannon at (205) 755-6356.
