Jemison to ‘get moving’ in one week

Two Harlem Globetrotters will be making moves at the second annual Get Moving Jemison event Saturday, March 17 at the Jemison Municipal Complex.

The event will start at 9 a.m. with a 5k or one-mile walk or run, and a health and fitness expo will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“As of right now, I have over 40 booths signed up to come,” program organizer Ginny Hallmark said. “We are praying for fabulous weather because I will have people outside and inside. I’m expecting over 200 people to be there.”

Numerous community groups are also slated to provide entertainment for guests.

The entertainment schedule includes Attitude dancers from Cornerstone at 10:15 a.m.; Girl Scouts troop skit at 10:30 a.m.; Zumba with Victoria from Cornerstone at 10:45 a.m.; Chilton Dance and Twirl at 11 a.m.; Yoga CORE with Victoria from Cornerstone at 11:15 a.m.; Y-cross with Wes at 11:30 a.m.; Zumba with YMCA at 11:45 a.m.; Jemison Cheerleaders at 12 p.m.; Yoga with Donna at Cornerstone at 1 p.m.; Zumba with YMCA at 1:15 p.m.; SINEMA at 2 p.m.; and Letters to Send at 3 p.m.

“It’s going to be a full, all-day family event,” Hallmark said. “If we have perfect weather, it will be perfect.”

Those interested in running or walking can still register but may not receive a T-shirt.

The health and fitness expo is free to attend.

“We still want people to come, whether they registered or not,” Hallmark said.
