The source of a loud, rattling noise reported across Chilton County, but primarily Clanton northward, has not yet been determined.

Chilton County 911 says they have received more than 100 calls about the noise, but that no explosions or fires have been reported.

Jets breaking the sound barrier have been proposed as one source for the commotion, but that has not been confirmed.

The sound was heard across several central Alabama counties around 4:30 p.m.
