William Edward “Billy” Mims, 60, of Clanton died Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at VA Medical Center, Birmingham.

He was born on Thursday, Sept. 20, 1951, in Chilton County, son of the late Ralph W. Mims and the late Eunice Bullard Mims.

He was a retired major in the U.S. Air Force. He loved flying planes.

Surviving are his daughter, Jennifer Mims of Phoenix; son, Stephen Mims of Phoenix; sister, Sandra (Gordon) Swenson of Clanton; brother, John Mims of Clanton; two nieces and one nephew.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 2 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held at noon on Friday, March 2 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Matt DeBord officiating.

Interment will follow in Chilton Memorial Gardens, Clanton.
