Almost all varsity sports contests scheduled for Tuesday were canceled because of soggy conditions caused by rain throughout the day.

Baseball cancellations included: Verbena at Billingsley, Jeff Davis at Jemison, Shelby County at Chilton County and Maplesville at Calera.

CCHS coach Josey Shannon said a make-up date has been tentatively set for March 5.

Coaches of other teams affected by Tuesday’s cancellations were unsure when the games would be made up.

Softball cancellations included: Dallas County at Billingsley, Isabella at Autaugaville and Jemison at Calera. No make-up dates had been set as of Tuesday afternoon.

Jemison’s golf match at Montevallo was canceled, as was Chilton County’s tennis match at Prattville, but the JHS tennis team made the trip to Booker T. Washington.

No result was available as of press time Tuesday.

Though the fields were quiet Tuesday, there were contests played Monday.

Jemison’s softball team defeated Montevallo, 15-5, in five innings.

Shelby Lopez and Tiffany Guin hit home runs in the game, and freshman Jennifer Paschal earned her first varsity win on the mound.

“Everyone played great defense, and it was a total team effort,” JHS coach Leighsa Robinson said.

The Panthers have also defeated Paul Bryant this season but lost to Montevallo, making their record 2-1.

Also on Monday, Maplesville defeated Thorsby, 2-0, behind the performance of pitcher Autumn Smith, who scattered six hits over seven innings without allowing a run.

Smith was helped by the defense of catcher Kathryn Jones, who threw out two of three base stealers and allowed no passed balls.

Neither Smith nor Thorsby pitcher Taylor McManus walked a batter during the game.
