Walnut Creek United Methodist Church in Clanton will uphold its 16-year tradition of celebrating the season of Lent with lunches every Wednesday from Feb. 29 to April 5.

Each program will be from 12-1 p.m. with complimentary lunch and different guest speakers and singers every week.

“Lent is a period of time lasting from Ash Wednesday through Good Friday,” Walnut Creek Senior Pastor Tony Hughes said. “It is simply a time to prepare for the Easter event. Everyone is invited and welcome.”

The guest speakers are pastors of churches in Chilton County, and their messages will follow the singers’ performances.

“We try to gather a cross section of our community as far as different denominations and churches,” Hughes said. “I think it’s a wonderful time and opportunity for us as people of God to move through a period of time and take it as a time of preparation.”

The guest speakers and singers each week are:

•Feb. 29 – Randy Reed and Lacey Baker Ellison

•March 7 – Jake McCall and Howard Daugherty

•March 14 – Steve Reneau and Adrian Barrington

•March 21 – Matt DeBord and Micki Marsh

•March 28 – Phillip McDavid and Eddie Lightsey

•April 5 – Tony Hughes and Lisa Abbott
