Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a $223,250 grant for the purchase of a new fire truck.

The grant was announced by Congressman Spencer Bachus.

“The members of the Cedar Grove Volunteer Department work hard to protect the community, and this new fire truck will help them in their response to fire calls,” Bachus said in a release. “We are thankful for the service provided by our volunteer firefighters and also recognize their families for the support that they provide.”

Funds awarded under the Assistance to Firefighters program are used to meet the firefighting and emergency needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated medical services organizations, according to the release.

Only the applications most closely conforming to program priorities are considered and scored by peer review panels.

The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
