Gretchen Holbrook Prady of Thorsby passed away at age 64 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was an inspiration to all who knew her well.

She was married for more than 38 years to Ed, who shared her passion for their family, their church and for travel around the country. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Thorsby and previously, at First Baptist Center Point.

A longtime registered nurse, formerly at Montclair Hospital, she began work at Shelby Hospital around 1990, where her co-workers became as family to her.

Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Katie Holbrook, and by her in-laws, Bob and Ruth Prady. She is survived by her husband, Ed Prady, sons; Ken Prady (Marcie) and Brian Prady (Chris); and her beloved grandchildren, Erin, Drew, Laina and Patrick. She is also survived by her sister, Karen Greene (Jim), and her brother, Jim Holbrook (JoEllen), her nieces and a nephew.

Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Thorsby. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the American Cancer Society.
