BOE approves Special Olympics date, LeCroy instructor

The Chilton County Board of Education approved scheduling Special Olympics on May 3 with the rain date May 10 at Tuesday’s meeting.

The board also approved Frank Mims as instructor for the welding adult technical night classes at LeCroy Career/Tech Center.

In the monthly financial report, CFO Steve Yeargan said receipts, expenditures and funding were on track for November and December.

“We’re fortunate to keep rocking along without any major things happening,” Yeargan said. “We’re in better shape than I thought we’d be. It could be worse.”

In other business, the board:

•Approved new substitute employees.

•Approved the following school requests: Permission to pay Jason Sosa a $1,000 supplement from nonpublic funds for help in filming the 2011 football season at Chilton County High; a contract substitute ($70 per day) at Clanton Elementary; a contract substitute ($70 per day) at Clanton Middle; permission to pay nine teachers $25 per hour with Title I funds for eight hours of after-school tutoring during February at Jemison Elementary; a contract substitute ($70 per day) at Jemison High; permission for Pleasant Grove Baptist Church No. 2 to change the date on using the Maplesville High auditorium for the Relay For Life Beauty Pageant to Jan. 21; and to pay Kim Ray $30 per day as bus driver for the job training program at Clanton Middle.

•Approved two leave requests.

•Approved resignations for Kacy Gray, teacher at Chilton County High, and Kim Martin, varsity cheerleader sponsor.

•Approved new employees and posting of vacancies.

•Permitted an employee to transfer 140 hours of accumulated sick leave from Jacksonville State University to 20 days sick leave with the Chilton County School System.
