U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus will have competition for his District 6 seat in the March 13 primary.

Also running for the Republican nomination are state Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale; Tuscaloosa businessman Stan Pate; Blount County Probate Judge David Standridge; Al Mickle of Alabaster, who ran as a write-in candidate in 2010; and Justin Barkley.

The Democratic primary will include retired Air Force Col. Penny Huggins Bailey and Clay attorney William Barnes.

Alabama’s District 6 includes Chilton, Bibb and Shelby counties, and parts of Coosa, Jefferson, St. Clair and Tuscaloosa counties.

Bachus has served in the House since 1993 and is the senior member of the state’s House delegation.
