Things are looking up: Maplesville girls basketball player Keshia Bailey (3) looks to score in a county tournament semifinal Friday against Thorsby. Bailey scored 16 points as the sixth-seeded Red Devils advanced to the championship game.

Prior to this week’s Chilton County Basketball Tournament, the participating coaches got together and seeded teams based on their performance thus far into the season.

Those coaches seeded Maplesville’s girls team dead last.

But the Red Devils advanced to the championship game against top-seeded Verbena with Friday’s 43-27 win over No. 2 seed Thorsby.

The championship game will be played 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Chilton County High School.

MHS on Friday was led by Ebony Childers (19 points and 11 rebounds) and Keshia Bailey (16 points and eight rebounds).

In junior varsity action, Chilton County advanced to play Jemison in the championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday.
