Parker Bryan scored 17 points and the game-winning layup with 4 seconds left Tuesday as Thorsby’s varsity boys defeated Verbena, 63-61, in the first round of the Chilton County Basketball Tournament.

B.B. Evans also had 17 points for the fifth-seeded Rebels, and teammate Nathan Oldroyd had 15 points.

No. 4 seed Verbena lost despite 30 points from T.J. Ray.

Jaronski Williams had 12 points for VHS.

The Rebels play top-seeded Jemison at 7 p.m. Thursday.
