Maplesville’s girls basketball team on Monday won the first game of the Chilton County tournament, 40-24, over host Chilton County High School.

The Red Devils trailed most of the game but took the lead for good at the end of the third quarter, when Keshia Bailey scored while being fouled and made the ensuing free throw for a 24-17 advantage.

Chilton County closed to within a few points early in the fourth, but then the game got away from them.

Bailey led all scorers with 15 points.

Chilton’s Chynna Davis had nine points.

Sixth-seeded Maplesville will play No. 2 seed Thorsby at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
