The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce will wrap up another successful year in style at its ’50s-themed awards banquet on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Business owners and community leaders will gather at the Alabama Power Conference Center building at 6:30 p.m. for a sit-down dinner and awards ceremony.

This year’s awards include Ambassador of the Year, Business of the Year and Community Spirit.

This is the first year the Chamber will recognize an Ambassador of the Year.

The Business of the Year award is given every year, and last year’s winner was Hull & Russell PC.

The Community Spirit Award is reserved for people or organizations that merit praise for outstanding community efforts.

“We try to do it only when we think we have the right recipient,” Chamber President Mike Robertson said of the non-annual award. “It has to do with selflessness and generosity toward the community. This year, we’ll focus on the generosity part.”

Last year’s Community Spirit winner was Clanton First United Methodist Church.

“They open their doors for everybody over there,” Robertson said. “They’ve really engaged the community.”

Along with the awards presentation, the Chamber will install its new board of directors, review the minutes from the last meeting and preview plans for the 2012 Peach Jam Jubilee.

LeCroy Career/Tech Center Director Tommy Glasscock will choose and announce the winners (one male, one female) of the Chamber’s customary costume contest.
