Two Chilton County men were arrested Wednesday following a botched burglary attempt in the Enterprise community.

Justin Patrick McDaniel, 24, of Clanton, and Jamie Eugene Scott, 43, of Thorsby, face various charges in connection to the incident.

Wednesday, Chilton County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of County Road 733.

The call came in after a homeowner returned to his house to find two men stealing items from a storage building on the property and loading them into a pickup truck, according to the sheriff’s office.

The homeowner got out of his own vehicle with a shotgun in hand, prompting the suspect to abandon the truck and run into a wooded area behind the home, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies arrived on the scene and started to look for the men. The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office K9 Tracking Team was called out also.

Once the K9 team arrived, the dog was released and both suspects were taken into custody about one half a mile away.

Investigators remained on the scene to gather evidence, and the men were arrested and charged with the following crimes:

McDaniel was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree theft of property, possession of burglar’s tools and attempting to elude police.

Scott was charged third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree theft of property, possession of burglar’s tools, attempting to elude police and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both men were booked in the Chilton County Jail, and as of Friday morning, no bond has been set.
