George Thurman “G.T.” Porter

God is good…and has blessed this life with peace.  After a lengthy illness, George Thurman Porter, 73, of Jemison passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at home, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

George “G.T.” was born March 8, 1938, in Jemison, son of George and Etha Ellison Porter. He was a lifelong resident of Chilton County and worked in the construction business.
Surviving are his wife, Annie Merle of Jemison; daughter, Sheila (Wade) Ray; daughter, Pam Porter; son, Anthony (Kandye) Porter; daughter, Cassandra (Bryan) Edge; grandchildren, Blake Raines, Summer Raines, Trevor Porter, Kelsey Porter, Heath Edge and Allison Edge, all of Jemison; brother, Bunion (Irene) Porter of Jemison; sister, Emma Jean Porter of Clanton; and sister, Christine Ellison of Clanton. He is also survived by many extended family members, nieces and nephews, and a host of loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, George W. Porter; mother, Etha Ellison Porter; brother, Vernon Porter; brother, Henry “Bug” Porter; sister, Pearline Martin; and brother-in-law,

Robert Earl Ellison.

Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 5-8 p.m.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. at Midway Memorial Gardens in Jemison.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
