The Chilton County Board of Education approved three employee resignations Tuesday in its last meeting before school dismisses for the holidays.

The board also approved new full-time and substitute employees to fill deficits after a large number of employees retired before their Public Education Employees Health Insurance Plan (PEEHIP) insurance premiums increased.

Chilton County Schools Superintendent Dave Hayden recommended the board approve an upgrade in Pace Learning Systems at the Chilton County Alternative School, noting that the alternative program is lacking social studies and science courses.

“It hasn’t been upgraded since 2003,” Hayden said. “This will give us social studies and science.”

In other business, the board:

•Approved entering into a $25-per-hour Title III/ELL contract with Jennifer Davis for supplemental ELL Services at Verbena School beginning Jan. 2.

•Approved leave requests for six employees.

•Approved the following school requests: Permission to pay Donny Finlayson a $1,000 supplement and Jason Sosa a $500 supplement from nonpublic funds for cchslive.com broadcasts at Chilton County High School; permission for Pleasant Grove Baptist Church No. 2 to use an auditorium at no charge for a Relay For Life beauty pageant on Jan. 28 at Maplesville; and approval for Jeremy Moore as volunteer baseball coach for the 2012 season.

•Approved distributing December payroll checks on Thursday, Dec. 29 from 8 to 10 a.m.

•Approved placing a student in the Chilton Alternative Program for 90 days.

•Approved Alyson Childress as an aide for the Jemison Elementary after-school program.

•Approved homebound services for two students.

•Approved posting vacancies.

•Granted Robin M. Baker permission to transfer 211.02 hours of accumulated sick leave from J.F. Ingram State Technical College to 30 days sick leave with the Chilton County School System.

The board’s next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 4 p.m.
