A Clanton man was arrested Tuesday after several car break-ins around the airport.

Andrew Williams faces two charges of breaking and entering, theft of property and burglary.

Williams was arrested Dec. 6 after Clanton Police began to receive calls of a man in dark clothing breaking into vehicles along Ollie Avenue around 5:40 that morning.

Clanton Detective Robert Bland gave the following account of what happened Tuesday:

Clanton patrol officers came to the scene and began to look for the possible suspect. At 6:18 a.m. a woman who lives on Airport Road called 911 to say that there was a man in her house but that he took off running toward the airport.

The man was spotted again near the airport right after another report of a vehicle being broken into on Jackson Street.

The suspect took off running and after an hour manhunt, Williams was arrested around Marion Avenue.

As of Friday afternoon, Williams was in the Chilton County Jail on $41,500 on a probation violation hold.

Bland thanked the night shift patrol units for doing a great job in finding Williams. Deputies from the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the search.

Bland also wants to remind everyone to make sure to lock their vehicles and take all valuables out of them.

“This is the time of the year when we see a rise in vehicle break-ins and burglaries,” Bland said.
