Shoot for two: Billingsley’s Garrett Price (12) shoots over the Thorsby defense during Friday’s game, a 63-60 Bears win.

Billingsley’s boys and girls basketball teams earned wins at Thorsby on Friday, with the boys game going down to the wire.

The Bears (2-3) led most of the way, but a Parker Bryan three-pointer with 5:38 remaining in the game gave the hosts a 51-49 lead.

Billingsley retook the lead with 21.3 seconds left on a putback. Both Carlos Caver and Torrey Green appeared to get a hand on the ball before it went in.

Thorsby then turned the ball over a charging call, and a technical foul put Green on the line for two free throws. He sank both of them.

Green added two more made free throws moments later, and THS (1-5) couldn’t threaten the lead.

Caver led all scorers with 25 points, and teammate Justin Snow had 14 points.

Bryan had 20 points—12 of which came on free throws as a result of his aggressive drives to the basket—and Aaron Thornton had 13 points.

Billingsley also won the girls game, 52-40, led by Lori Davis’ 27 points.

Payton Wallace added 12 points for Billingsley (3-1).

Sharonda Cooper scored a team-high 21 points for Thorsby (2-4).

Haley Barnett scored eight points, and Jennifer Spivey had seven, all of which came in the second period.

Billingsley will dedicate its new gym at 1 p.m. Saturday.
