A fundraiser will be held Nov. 19 at the Jemison Municipal Complex from noon until 10 p.m. to raise money for Jacob Jones, a 14-month-old boy who was diagnosed with Tay-Sachs disease in October.

Jacob is the son of Justin and Erica Jones of Jemison, and he has a host of relatives and friends rallying support for him through fundraisers.

Saturday’s event will include an auction for footballs signed by Nick Saban and Pat Sullivan, a Christmas wreath and Alabama and Auburn wreaths.

Guests can enter drawings for gift certificates and baskets donated by local businesses.

In addition, there will be a raffle, cake auction, games, moon bounce, yard sale and live music.

Hotdogs, hamburgers and drinks will be sold, and all proceeds from the event will go to Jacob’s family to help fund his future treatments.

Tay-Sachs is a rare genetic disorder in which a fatty substance builds up in the brain and reaches toxic levels, affecting the nerve cells. There is no cure yet, and life expectancy for a child with the disease is about 5 years.
