Community Thanksgiving meal prepares for fourth year

A traditional Thanksgiving meal, complete with all the fixings, will be served Thanksgiving Day at Brandon’s Place in Clanton. The meal is free, and everyone is invited to come enjoy it.

This will be the fourth year that Ruby Varner and Essie Coleman have prepared the meal. The women served their first meal as an outreach for people who were alone on the holidays or didn’t have someone to cook for them.

Since then, the community Thanksgiving meal has grown every year to include more and more people. Varner and Coleman are the primary preparers of the food, but people also make donations to help with the event.

The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24. Volunteers to help serve the dinner are also needed.

Last year, about 25 people volunteered for various lengths of time, Varner said.

If you are interested in volunteering, call Varner at (205) 688-0819 or (205) 755-4197 or Coleman at (205) 755-9222.

Varner and Coleman wanted to thank Juanita Parker for use of the building.

Brandon’s Place is located at 1204 Second Ave. N in Clanton.
