YMCA to host Fall Prevention Seminar in November

Chilton County YMCA and Chilton Physical Therapy have partnered to present a fall prevention seminar at the YMCA each Tuesday in November.
YMCA Director Mary Beth Wyatt said everyone is welcome to attend the free seminar, which will take place Nov. 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 11-11:30 a.m., right after the Y’s semiweekly arthritis class.
Katie Epperson of Chilton Physical Therapy will lead the seminar, and attendees will have opportunities to ask questions.
The Y will provide light refreshments.
“We’re just trying to bring in as many people as we can,” Epperson said. “We’re trying to get out in the community a little bit more and get some information out to people.”
Wyatt said the seminars are designed to provide “added benefit” to other Y programs such as the arthritis class Tuesdays and Thursdays and the arthritis walk in December.
“The important thing is that everybody is welcome, all ages, members and non-members,” Wyatt said. “Prevention is always better than treatment. If we can do things to prevent injuries, that’s by all means better than treatment.”
The Fall Prevention Seminar programs are:
•Nov. 8: Falls Prevention: Why so important?
•Nov. 15: How to fall-proof your home.
•Nov. 22: Exercises to decrease your chance of falls.
•Nov. 29: Safe balance activities you can do at home.
