Deck the halls! Ann Baker, Gay West and Gwyn Loyd at the Chilton County Extension Office’s Open House.

The Chilton County Extension Office held a holiday open house Friday offering residents an opportunity to learn more about the office’s programs and community events.

Chilton County’s Master Gardeners prepared and served refreshments, several of which are recipes from this year’s holiday cookbook.

The cookbooks were free, and guests enjoyed viewing Christmas decorations in each room, along with quilts made by Gwyn Lloyd, Jeanette Glasscock and other local quilters.

Joan McGriff, TES professional with the Extension Office, organized the open house but was unable to attend Friday.

Master Gardener Ann Baker helped with the event and said guests were lined up outside the office doors before it started at 10 a.m.

“We’ve had more (guests) so far than we had last year,” said Gay West, county extension coordinator. “It’s been a great turnout.”

The Chilton County Extension Office houses regional extension agents for 4-H, family living, financial management, food safety and nutrition.

An upcoming 4-H event is the Operation Military Kids Family Fun Day on Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Jemison. It is free to attend and will feature various Junior Master Gardener activities.
