Chilton County loses heartbreaker

Chilton County High School lost another close game Friday — in an overtime heartbreaker to Shelby County.

The Tigers had a chance to win the low-scoring contest in regulation, but a potential game winning field goal by Anthony Chavez was blocked, sending the game into overtime with things tied 14-14.

Chilton County would fumble the ball in overtime, setting up the Wildcats with great field position. Shelby County scored quickly, earning a 20-14 win.

The home team jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Chilton County answered in the second half with a 15-yard TD pass from Chance Britnell to Dyquan Floyd.

Shelby County scored another touchdown, but Chilton County answered again with a long drive capped by a 1-yard run by Richard Hilliard to tie things up in the fourth quarter.

Michael Seaton finished the night with 78 yards on 20 carries.

Britnell was sensational in the second half, going 7-of-11 for 125 yards and the TD to Floyd. Vadall Morrow also had 25 yards receiving on two catches.

On defense, Hilliard had a 21 tackles and a fumble recovery. Nic Looney had 17 tackles, while Braylan Parker had an interception. Chase Brown forced a fumble, and Patrick McKinney had a sack.

Chilton County finishes the season with a 3-7 record. Five of the losses were by a TD or less.
